Fire Protection

  • We offer a wide range of fire-resistant glass options with varying levels of protection to suit your needs. Protection levels are measured in defined time periods (30, 60, 90, 120 and 180 minutes) and in terms of either integrity and insulation or integrity only, as designated by the European Standards.
Products

Pilkington Pyroclear® is an advanced toughened fire-resistant glass for use as a basic integrity-only barrier. It is based on a new technology development which we’ve been perfecting and crafting for several years, built on an in-depth understanding of the behaviour of glass in fire, including new knowledge of the detail that influences the probability of glass failure.

Benefits

Pilkington Pyroclear® is an integrity only product for 30 and 60 minutes, (E30 and E60) to BS EN 13501-02

Integrity with reduced heat radiation (EW60) is achieved by using Pilkington Pyroclear® Plus in an insulating glass unit (IGU) or a monolithic laminated glass

Unique product design and system description, manufacturing process and quality assurance system

Recognised to have a superior visual quality due to special processing, high quality toughening and high quality process control

Has achieved a target of more than 50 consecutive successful fire tests in timber framed systems

Designed for compatible edge cover of up to 20 mm for metal frames and 15 mm for timber (NB. Typical value for modified toughened is commonly given as 10 mm maximum to minimise the risks of unpredictable failure)

Exploits our developed proprietary R&D knowledge and expertise on glazing systems in timber frames (system design, materials, glazing arrangements)

Large pane size capability in metal systems (1.970 m x 4.0 m)

Pilkington Pyroclear® has been tested with a variety of glazing seals including a foam tape option for use in timber doors and screens

Produced at our premier architectural glass processing site in the UK to the highest of quality control standards

Pilkington Pyroclear® Line allows large pane butt jointed systems to be specified for 30 and 60 minute  internal applications

  • Using the same technology as Pilkington Pyrostop®, Pilkington Pyrodur® is tried and tested against fire and hot gases.

Pilkington Pyrodur® is widely used and specified in a range of softwood and hardwood timber. Offering up to 60 mins integrity, Pilkington Pyrodur® can combine impact resistance (BS EN 12600) up to Class 1(B)1 and penetration resistance (BS EN 356) to classification P(1)A , which is a requirement in Approved Document Q and recommended in Secured by Design.
  • In the event of fire, Pilkington Pyrodur® turns opaque providing both the integrity requirements of a barrier to hot gases and flames. As such, Pilkington Pyrodur® complies with British, European and ISO test standards.

Benefits

Provides passive protection for escape from buildings or firefighter access

Well known and recognised by Fire and Building Control Authorities

Suitable for internal and external applications

Can be used in some of the lightest density and slimmest timber frame profiles

Also suitable for steel, aluminium and fire rated composite frames

Achieves an integrity rating of at least 30 minutes and an insulation rating of 15 minutes

Excellent sound reduction properties

Fire performance not dependent on critical framing edge cover requirements

Pilkington Pyrodur® is available through approved Stockists nationwide who have the technical expertise to help you specify the correct product and advise on installation

Can be incorporated into sealed double glazed units but in order to comply with CE marking requirements these should only be sourced through attestation level 1 suppliers, who are accredited to or licensed for manufacture of Pilkington Pyrodur®fire-resistant sealed units

There is no need for consideration of the fire direction when specifying Pilkington Pyrodur® fire-resistant sealed units

P(1)A classification to BS EN 356

  • Tried, Tested & Trusted fire protection against heat, flames and hot gases. The Pilkington Pyrostop® Range is a clear, laminated fully insulating fire-protection and impact-resistant glass. Offering the highest levels of fire protection (integrity and insulation), maximising the available levels of natural light and visibility. Depending on the thickness, it provides impact protection up to Class 1 of BS EN 12600.
  • Pilkington Pyrostop® is the product to use wherever a complete, physically robust fire protection shield is desired in combination with the high quality through vision and high quality natural lighting typical of normal glazing. The thicker products within the range are based uniquely on Pilkington Optiwhite™ high light transmission glass.
  • In the event of fire Pilkington Pyrostop® turns opaque providing both the integrity requirements of a barrier to hot gases and flames, as well as very effective insulation from the heat of a blaze.
  • As such, Pilkington Pyrostop® complies with the very precise temperature criteria defined in European test standards and ISO test standards.

    Benefits

      • Provides passive protection for escape from buildings or firefighter access

Protects against the spread of fire and helps to limit fire damage

Opaque insulating interlayer blocks the view of the fire which minimises panic and acts as a guide for emergency services to indicate the presence of fire

Suitable for all applications where full fire insulation together with protection against flame and hot gases is a requirement of the local building regulations

Typical applications include partial or full size fire doors, partition glazing along escape routes, room compartmentation, roofs, floors and facade glazing

Designed to be used in windows to prevent break out of fire and movement of fire along or up the outside face of the building or across re-entrant corners, as well as the prevention of fire transfer from one building to another

Pilkington Pyrostop® is available through approved Stockists nationwide who have the technical expertise to help you specify the product you need and advise you on installation
